IMPORTANT APPLICATION DEADLINE
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Firefighter / Volunteer Resident Firefighter for the Diamond Springs/El Dorado Fire Protection District. We are pleased that you are willing to serve your community with us. Becoming a volunteer will involve a significant commitment on your part, and we want you to understand the full requirements of membership in our organization. As a Volunteer Firefighter, you assume responsibilities for the protection of life and property. Your position as a Volunteer Firefighter can be hazardous, but we trust it will also prove rewarding. We cannot stress how seriously you must take this obligation.
There are several things that you must do before becoming a Volunteer Firefighter. They are:
1. All applicants must submit an application, typed or printed clearly. Resumes may be included, and are encouraged, but not in place of the application.
2. Provide a current CA Department of Motor Vehicles driver's license printout and a photocopy of your current driver's license. You must have a valid California driver's license to be a Volunteer Firefighter
4. Possess valid First Responder medical certification or Emergency Medical Technician 1 and CPR (healthcare provider or equivalent) certificates prior to active service. Certification must be maintained to remain active.
5. Pass an application screening and selection interview, a background check, medical examination, drug screening, and the Diamond Springs/El Dorado Fire District’s Physical Ability Test.
6. Comply with one of the following:
A. Submit a copy of a California Firefighter 1 certificate.
B. Attend and pass an El Dorado County Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Academy.
C. Document experience and/or training, as a firefighter, that will provide us with enough information to waive attendance at an El Dorado County Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Academy.
7. Meet Volunteer training / attendance requirements.
8. Meet Volunteer Firefighter Performance Standards.
As you can see, this process will require a lot of effort on your part. Please take the time to consider whether or not you can make the commitment that is required to maintain currency as a Volunteer Firefighter with our District.
On this website, you can view the Volunteer Job Description and find additional information about our organization and the responsibilities of a Volunteer Firefighter.
Once again, thanks for your interest!
