ARTICLE
9.1.1. To establish a uniform policy for dealing with absenteeism and for the administration of disciplinary action when required.
9.2.1. It is necessary that each employee be on the job on time, each scheduled work day. However, it is recognized that occasionally absence or tardiness will happen. The following policy is intended to control excessive absenteeism and tardiness that can affect the quality of the service rendered to the people within the district.
9.3.1. Five (5) occurrences of absence, tardiness, failure to complete a scheduled shift, failure to show for accepted overtime, or any combination thereof within any ninety day period will cause an employee's record to be reviewed and may result in disciplinary action. Consecutive days absence for the same acceptable reason will be treated as a single occurrence.
9.3.2. The fact that the district agrees to sick leave pay for an absence does not exempt the employee from this policy
9.3.3.
An employee absent for three consecutive work
days without notification will be considered to have voluntarily terminate
unless notification was prevented by reason acceptable to the district.
9.4. Procedure: The following procedures is established to facilitate the accomplishment of this policy.
9.4.1. A continuous attendance record will be maintained for each employee. Required action and related information will be noted on this record by the employee's supervisor, administrative assistant or chief officer. All employees may review their record at any time.
9.4.2. The supervisor or chief officer will meet with any employee meeting or exceeding the guidelines of this policy and with the chief's concurrence take appropriate corrective action.
9.4.3. Corrective action: if necessary, progressive discipline for excessive absenteeism and/or tardiness includes:
1. Documented verbal
warning.
2. Written reprimand.
3. Three day suspension
without pay.
4. Ten day suspension
without pay.
5. Discharge
9.4.3.1. Corrective action #1 will be taken after five occurrences and progressive steps will be taken with each additional occurrence within a ninety (90) day period.
