LEAVE OF ABSENCE

7.1  Leave of Absence With Pay

7.1.1 Family Death: A leave of absence can be requested for a death in the immediate family. Such leave shall not exceed 5 calendar days for 40 employees or 2 shifts for 56 hour employees, and will be charged to employees' sick leave.

7.1.1.1 Immediate Family: Spouse, parents, siblings and children.

7.1.2 Jury Duty: A leave of absence will be granted when employees are subpoenaed for jury duty. All fees received from jury duty, excluding reimbursement for expenses, shall be turned over to the district. Employees shall notify the district office upon receiving a subpoena for jury duty.

7.1.3 Military leave: Employees will be granted a leave of absence for military duty.

7.1.4 There will be no loss of benefits for leaves of absences granted with pay.

7.2  Leave of Absence Without Pay

7.2.1 The chief may grant a temporary leave of absence without pay, for a period not to exceed 60 days, in the following instances:

7.2.1.1. To attend classes or schools that will benefit the district.
7.2.1.2. In the case of a family emergency.

7.2.2 The board of directors may grant a leave of absence for extended periods. A written request must be sent to the board President prior to the monthly board meeting.

7.2.3 Loss of benefits while on leave of absence:

7.2.3.1. Accumulation of vacation and sick leave.
7.2.3.2 . Contributions to health insurance. (note: district will continue to pay benefits if reimbursed by the employee)

7.3  Volunteer Personnel - Leave of Absence

7.3.1 Any volunteer who will be unable to respond on calls or attend training may be granted a leave of absence not to exceed 6 months. If an absence of more than 6 months is needed the volunteer may request to be placed on the inactive rolls. (note: when a volunteer is placed on the inactive roll they shall return all equipment issued by the department.)
