VACATIONS

6.1  Eligibility

6.1.1 All full time employees shall be eligible for vacation one year after their date of hire as outlined below.

6.2  Vacation Year

6.2.1 Shall begin on the first day of the year and extend to the first day of the following year.

6.3  Computation

6.3.1  56 hour employees

Date of hire to end of 5th year                                    5.6 hours per pay period.
12 hour assignment                                                     2.8 hours per pay period.
Beginning of 6th to end of 10th year                          7.6 hours per pay period.
12 hour assignment                                                     3.8 hours per pay period.
Beginning of 11th to end of 15th year                        9.3 hours per pay period.
12 hour assignment                                                     4.65 hours per pay period.
Beginning of 16th year and over                                11.2 hours per pay period.
12 hour assignment                                                     5.6 hours per pay period.

6.3.2  40 hour employees

Date of hire to end of 5th year                                    3.4 hours per pay period
Beginning of 6th to end of 10th year                          4.9 hours per pay period
Beginning of 11th to end of 15th year                        5.7 hours per pay period
Beginning of 16th year and over                                 6.5 hours per pay period.

6.3.3 Part time employees, after 3 months, shall earn vacation on a prorated basis, on either a 56 hour or 40 hour work week schedule.

6.3.4 Additional vacation days may be accumulated as outlined in Article -4- Sick Leave.

6.4  Accumulation

6.4.1 56 hour employees shall not accumulate more than17 shifts (408 hrs) at any one time.

6.4.2 40 hour employees shall at the end of the calendar year not accumulate more than 34 shifts (272 hrs) at any one time.

6.4.3 All employees shall lose any unused vacation that exceeds the maximum allowable accumulation, except in the event that the needs of the service prevent an employee from taking a vacation during the vacation year. Employee shall receive a written waiver stating this.

6.4.4
  
56 hour employees with less than 5 years shall not schedule more than 5 consecutive shifts, employees with more than 5 years shall not schedule more than 7 consecutive shifts of vacation at any one time without approval of the chief.

 

6.5  Use

6.5.1 56 hour employees with less than 5 years shall not schedule more than 5 consecutive shifts, employees with more than 5 years shall not schedule more than 7 consecutive shifts of vacation at any one time without approval of the chief.

6.5.2 40 hour employees with less than 5 years shall not schedule more than 10 consecutive shifts, employees with more than 5 years shall not schedule more than 15 consecutive shifts of vacation at any one time without approval of the chief.

6.5.3 All employees may take more than one vacation period per year if they have accumulated vacation time. Vacations shall be scheduled

6.5.4 In emergencies or special situations vacations may be extended or granted by the chief. Hours used will be charged to the employee.

6.6   Scheduling

6.6.1 In so far as possible, the employee's vacation time will be arranged to meet the employees request.

6.6.2 Employees may be allowed to take vacation time by the shifts, day or hour.

6.6.3 All vacation time should be scheduled a minimum of two weeks prior to requested vacation date.

6.7  Leaving Service

6.7.1 Accumulated vacation time will be paid at the employees hourly rate at the time he/she leaves service.
