17.7 Fire Prevention Officer

Assignment Description:

To perform, in addition to their regular duty assignments, the duties of fire prevention officer.

Supervisor: Chief or designate.

Nature of Duties:

Oversee and participate in the fire prevention activities of the district, which includes, but is not limited to fire inspections, public relations programs in the community and schools, maintenance of proper records for fire prevention activities, and enforcement of fire and life safety standards. Reviews plan checks, occupancy inspections, business permits, attend tech design reviews, and other duties of the fire prevention officer. Attend workshops in fire prevention activities, read and interpret structural plans, specifications and blueprints and maintain an effective working relationship with the public.

Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge of state fire laws, national fire safety codes, local county and district codes. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
