I. Overview

Station 49 has been designed and constructed to enable it to be a building the public can use. Two rooms are available to the public for non-profit purposes when they are not in use by the district. The rooms are the Classroom and the Board Room (otherwise known as the Conference Room).

II. Allowable Public Use

1. Individuals or groups may use the Classroom or Board Room for public-oriented, non-profit purposes that do not conflict with the mission of the district and will not place the district in a position of public disapproval.

2. The ultimate decision of whether a use for the room in question is appropriate rests with the chief officers of the district.

3. Denial of use by a chief officer may be appealed to the Fire Chief or the Board of Directors.

III. Rules of Use

1. There is no charge for use of the Classroom or Board Room

2. The needs of the district shall prevail. Any room reservation may be cancelled by the district with no notice to meet the needs of the district. Generally, such cancellations should be limited to emergency uses. Reservations should be honored if at all possible.

3. The district shall not generally allow the use of both the Conference Room and the Classroom by outside groups at the same time. The intent is to always have one room available for district.

4. No room shall be used by an outside group for more than two days in a row without approval of the Fire Chief.

5. Weekly and Monthly use of the Classroom or Board Room shall not be allowed without approval of the Fire Chief.

6. Individuals or groups who reserve rooms are responsible for cleanup. Individuals or groups who leave a room in such a condition that fire personnel must clean the rooms prior to the next use may be prohibited from further using the rooms.

7. Security must be considered. Use of the Classroom by groups of people not known to the district shall be only approved by the Fire Chief, due to the fact that the classroom cannot be isolated from the rest of the facility.

IV. Procedure

1. A person or group wishing to use the Board Room or Classroom shall speak with a chief officer concerning the request.

2. The chief officer shall determine if the request is appropriate, and check the room use calendar (on the Operations Chief's computer) to see if the room is available.

3. The chief officer shall then either approve or decline the request.

4. If the request is granted, then the chief officer shall ensure that the calendar is updated.
