I. Overview

Due to the nature of fire service business, events will occur from time to time that significantly impact our personnel or the district as a whole. When these events occur, members of the Board of Directors should be notified and kept abreast of developing situations.

II. Procedure:

A. The Fire Chief or district duty officer shall contact the Chairman of the Board when a significant event has occurred. If the Chairman of the Board cannot be reached, another member of the Board shall be contacted

B. Notification shall be made as soon as practical after necessary actions have been taken to mitigate the event. Safety to personnel and the public shall take precedence.

III. Notification of the Board shall occur for the following events:

A. Any fatality of an employee, or injury to an employee that requires admission to the hospital. This applies to injuries that occur to employees who are on or off duty.

B. Any citizen fatality resulting from a fire.

C. Any incident where it appears likely that the performance of district personnel may be criticized, and a civilian is injured, a civilian is killed, or significant property damage occurs.

D. Any incident occurring in the district to which three or more news media agencies respond.

E. Any other incident which, in the opinion of the Fire Chief or the duty officer, has the potential to become newsworthy or controversial.
