I. Overview

This liveline loading procedure shall be used for all cross bed livelines on all pumping apparatus of the district. It is extremely important that all personnel load every liveline according to this procedure to avoid confusion and potentially destructive delays in application of water at incidents.

II. Procedure

A. Apparatus With Two Cross Bed Livelines

1. The liveline closest to the rear of the apparatus shall be loaded with the nozzle on the passenger's side of the vehicle.

2. The liveline closest to the front of the apparatus shall be loaded with the nozzle on the driver's side of the vehicle.

B. Apparatus With Three Cross Bed Livelines

1. The liveline closest to the rear of the apparatus shall be loaded with the nozzle on the passenger's side of the vehicle.

2. The middle liveline shall be loaded with the nozzle on the driver's side of the vehicle.

3. The liveline closest to the front of the apparatus shall be loaded with the nozzle on the driver's side of the vehicle.

C. All Apparatus

1. Livelines with 1½" outlets shall be loaded with 1¾" hose whenever possible.

2. Livelines with 2½" outlets shall be loaded with 2½" hose and a 2½" combination nozzle or Dual Force Task Force Tip nozzle and bell reducer.

D. Loading the Hose

1. Standard liveline length shall be 150', or three sections of structure fire hose.

2. All three lengths shall be connected together and loaded in a flat lay two hose widths wide. The hose will be loaded back and forth in the same manner that hose would be laid in a rear hose bed.

3. At approximately 50' a hose loop 12"to16" long will be placed to the front side of the hose bed (on the hose course nearest to the cab) on both sides of the apparatus.

4. At approximately 100' a hose loop 12"to 16" long will be placed to the rear side of the hose bed (on the hose course nearest to the tailboard) on both sides of the apparatus.

5. When all 150' of hose is in the bed, the nozzle will be placed in the hose bed on the desired side of the apparatus so that it can be seen by a firefighter pulling the load. The first bend of the hose aft of the nozzle will be placed to the front side of the bed (on the hose course nearest to the cab).
