I. General Responsibilities
A. All Apparatus Operators are responsible to ensure that apparatus are maintained in a condition so they are always ready to respond.
B. Apparatus Operators are responsible for ensuring that equipment is returned to service after use, and that a full complement of hose is always carried on the apparatus. If, for any reason, it is not possible to maintain a full inventory of equipment and hose, the Duty Captain shall be notified.
C. All apparatus should be fueled when their fuel tanks drop below 3/4 full.
II. Logbooks
A. Logbooks exist for every Diamond Springs - El Dorado Fire Apparatus. Log books shall be kept in the cab of each apparatus. Logbooks follow the vehicle, not the crew assigned to the vehicle.
B. All apparatus operators are responsible for performing the proper checks and making proper logbook entries on the forms contained therein.
C. Logbooks contain the following forms:
1. Apparatus Trip Log
2. Daily/Trip Apparatus Check Sheet
3. Weekly Apparatus Check Sheet
4. SCBA Inspection and Maintenance Check List
5. Repair Request Log
6. Inventory
7. Field Hydraulics Information Sheet
8. Standard Operating Procedure #501
III. Apparatus Operator Responsibilities
A. Apparatus Trip Log
1. The Apparatus Trip Log will be filled out after every trip. If the apparatus responds to an alarm while out on a detail, the alarm must be documented as a separate trip. The best estimate of mileage and pump hours for such a situation is sufficient for this document.
2. At the end of the trip, document the date, reason for the trip, ending mileage, ending pump hours (only if the vehicle has a pump hour meter), address or location, and the operator's initials.
B. Daily/Trip Apparatus Check Sheet
1. Apparatus housed at Stations 44, 46, and 47
a. This check shall be performed and the check sheet completed after every trip.
b. Date and initial the form after completing the check starting with the left column and working down.
2. Apparatus housed at Stations 48 and 49
a. This check shall be performed and the check sheet completed daily by the duty crew.
b. Date and initial the form after completing the check starting with the left column and working down.
C. Weekly Apparatus Check Sheet
1. Apparatus housed at Stations 44 and 47
a. This check shall be performed on Saturday or Sunday by Volunteer personnel. If the station has a resident, the resident is responsible for the check.
b. Date, initial and appropriately mark items where indicated after completing the check.
2. Apparatus housed at Stations 46, 48, and 49
a. This check shall be performed on Wednesday by duty crews. The mechanic shall check the apparatus at Station 46. In his absence, the check will be completed by duty personnel at the Captain's discretion.
b. Date, initial and appropriately mark items where indicated after completing the check.
D. SCBA Inspection and Maintenance Check List
1. There is an SCBA Inspection and Maintenance Check List for each breathing apparatus that corresponds to the ID number of the SCBA. SCBA ID numbers can be found on the backpack frame.
2. The SCBA Inspection and Maintenance Check List must follow the SCBA. If an SCBA is moved to another apparatus or taken out of service, the corresponding check list shall be transfered with the SCBA. It is absolutely essential that each SCBA has a corresponding SCBA check sheet in the logbook of the apparatus where it is stored.
3. SCBA inspections and the SCBA Inspection and Maintenance Check List shall be completed in the following manner:
a. After each use, in the section titled Inspection After Each Use . Be sure the date and initials of the person performing the check are entered.
b. Weekly, in the section titled Weekly Inspection .
c. Monthly, on the date of the first weekly check of the month. Be sure the date and initials of the person performing the check are entered.
E. Repair Request Log
1. Apparatus Operators shall fill out the appropriate sections of the Repair Request Log when a repair request form is submitted to the mechanic or when a repair is made by the operator.
2. The mechanic or person performing repairs shall complete the appropriate sections of the Repair Request Log when he completes repairs.
F. Inventory
1. The Inventory sheet(s) exists for use by apparatus operators to ensure that all items normally carried on an apparatus are in fact in their proper place.
2. As equipment is added to or removed from an apparatus, the inventory sheet must be updated accordingly. Operators should make any additions or deletions in pen as they occur, and then submit that information to the duty captain so that the computer inventory for that apparatus can be updated.
IV. Apparatus Cleanliness
A. Apparatus in Stations 48 and 49 shall be clean at the time of shift change. Oncoming crews should not be expected to clean the off-going crews' rigs unless special circumstances exist. In addition, all apparatus should be clean for tours and/or demonstrations to the public.
B. Apparatus in Stations 44, 46, and 47 shall be cleaned after each trip.
