I.         The Diamond Springs-El Dorado Fire Protection District recognizes the significant contribution non-suppression personnel make toward essential operations of the fire service.  Support Staff may provide services unforeseen and unspecified.  These factors necessitate this broad spectrum policy. 

 

II.        Minimum Requirements

 

A.        Support Staff must reside or work within District boundaries. Individuals who do not meet these criteria may be considered at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

B.        Support Staff must be at least 18 years of age.

C.        Support Staff must possess a valid California driver’s license and minimum level of vehicle insurance.

D.        Support Staff must submit to back ground investigation at the discretion of the District.

E.        Support Staff must meet the requirements of the job description for their specific position.

 

III.      Minimum Training Standards

 

A.        Support staff may have specific assignments and job functions tailored to their individual skill sets and ability. Examples would be an individual whose function is to operate a District water tender, provide breathing air support or scene lighting with Rescue 49, traffic control with a District utility vehicle, or provide logistical support to large incidents.

B.        Support Staff Training requirements will be reflective of that individual’s job function.  Individual training plans may be developed by the Training Officer.  

C.        Support Staff physical requirements shall be commensurate with the specific job function for which they are approved to perform as evaluated by the District Medical Evaluator.

 

IV.      Emergency Response

 

A.        Support Staff shall only respond to emergency scenes if they have been specifically trained and authorized to do so. 

B.        Only qualified personnel shall drive and operate District apparatus as outlined in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) #404.

C.        All personnel shall wear the approved protective clothing as outlined in SOP #301 when operating at incidents.

D.        All personnel shall obey the instructions and orders of Fire Officers at all times while on duty or operating at incident scenes.

E.        All personnel shall obey all traffic laws when responding to incidents in their private vehicles. Personnel in private vehicles are not to follow emergency vehicles responding with red lights and siren.

F.        All personnel shall act professionally when operating at incidents or representing the District.

G.        Any injuries or accidents will be reported to an officer immediately.

 

V.        Miscellaneous

 

A.        All personnel are required to take proper care of all issued equipment. All items of equipment must be returned to the District upon separation from service.

B.        All personnel shall read, understand and comply with District rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
