I. It is the policy of the Diamond Springs - El Dorado Fire Protection District and it's employees to maintain a high level of fitness for all of its members. This policy is intended to provide the community with physically fit firefighters and reduce work related injuries by improving the general health of the District's firefighters and non-safety personnel.
II. Policy
A. The District will provide personnel time on duty to participate in the physical fitness program. The District approves a minimum of one hour per shift, for each shift employee.
B. The District allows a minimum of one hour, three days per week for personnel assigned to a forty hour work week assignment.
C. All employees are encouraged to participate in the District Fitness Program. Employees should participate in the program to at least the minimum standard.
III. Objective and Standards
A. Each employee should maintain a high level of aerobic capacity. This shall be sufficient to allow the employee to perform work related tasks, such as wildland firefighting. The goal is for employees to remain free from injuries related to poor health.
C. Personnel may substitute participation on days off for normal participation in the fitness program.
IV. Organization
A. The Fitness Facility shall be under the authority of the duty Captain.
B. The District shall evaluate the cost effectiveness of the program. This review will consider frequency of job related injuries, related use of sick leave and the evaluation of the general health of the employee group.
