I. OverviewAs an emergency response agency, it is our responsibility to maintain constant readiness at all times. In order to accomplish that goal, field units must always be in a position to receive alarms from the Emergency Command Center. Therefore, the following procedure shall apply at all times.

II. Procedure

A. Duty Crews

1. All duty crews shall maintain the capability to receive alarms through radio or pager.

2. Duty crews who are more than 30 seconds travel time from a mobile or base station radio shall carry a portable radio with the power turned on.

3. Personnel who are separated from the rest of their crew, and who are more than 30 seconds travel time from a mobile or base station radio shall carry a portable radio with the power turned on.

B. Personnel Assigned to Apparatus Other Than Duty Crews

1. All apparatus which is staffed for any reason, and is not committed to an incident, is considered to be available for response, except when it is being driven to a repair facility for repair.

2. All personnel staffing available apparatus shall be subject to the provisions for duty crews as listed above.
