I. Overview
The gymnasium equipment is maintained for the benefit of the District and its employees. The purpose of the equipment is to insure that all personnel maintain good physical conditioning and reduce the potential for work related injury.
II. Exercise Frequency
A. All 24 hour shift duty personnel should work out in a non-competitive manner each shift unless they are prevented from working out due to illness or injury.
1. Workouts shall generally include some form of light to moderate weight training.
2. Workouts shall generally include aerobic training.
B. All 8 hour a day suppression personnel, including management, should work out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week.
C. The target workout times for duty personnel shall be between the hours of 0700 to 1000 hours.
III. General Facility Use Rules
A. No persons shall use any equipment unless they have been properly instructed in its use.
B. The Stair-Step machine shall not be used prior to reading the appropriate manuals.
C. Users of the facility shall check in and out on the appropriate time log.
D. All weights and accessories shall be returned to the proper place after use. They are not to be left on/attached to the equipment.
E. When using the Stair-Step machine and the treadmill, log your total time used on the machine. This is important for maintenance purposes. These machines shall always be turned off prior to leaving the facility.
F. Users of the facility are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
G. Association members, 18 years and older, are allowed to use exercise equipment after the hour of 12:00 noon. The morning hours are dedicated for on-duty use. It may be possible to use the facility earlier if the duty crew is finished.
H. Only Association members are allowed to use the gym.
J. No drinking of alcoholic beverages immediately before or during workouts. Common sense should prevail. No alcoholic beverages in the weight room at any time.
K. The gym facility shall be secured by the last person leaving:
1. Doors and windows closed and locked.
2. Lights out.
3. Radio, TV and exercise machines turned off.
L. Guests are not allowed to use the gym equipment without the approval of a chief officer.
M. All injuries shall immediately be reported to the on-duty Captain, and the appropriate incident report form completed.
