Station 49 is the District’s headquarters and is located in downtown Diamond Springs. This station has from two, up to three District-funded personnel and is staffed twenty-four hours a day. The station houses a rescue truck, three fire engines and a fire truck. This facility is the administrative headquarters of the District. The station is of modern construction and meets the requirements of the Building Code for an “essential services facility”. The building is approximately 14,385 square feet. When designed it intended to provide for future facilities in excess of 20 years. Unfortunately, due to local growth use of this facility is being quickly maximized. This facility is a community complex and includes a 6080 square foot firefighter’s hall, fire training facility and park area. This facility will remain the property of the Firefighters’ Association and is leased by the District. The District paid a lease equivalent to the loan payment until the loan was retired. The District will continue to lease the station and training facility for the balance of the lease for one dollar a year. Completion of this facility was a goal of past long-range plans. The fire station also serves as the alternate Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.) for the County of El Dorado and the firefighter’s hall is listed as an emergency evacuation center and has filled that function on several occasions.
Station 47 is located in the Sleepy Hollow Subdivision in the north area of the District. This station houses an engine and is a volunteer-staffed facility and serves as a home to a resident firefighter. Staffing of this station is on a casual basis and is limited by poor volunteer turnout. This station’s location may not be best suited in relation to response times. This facility was modified to accommodate additional resident personnel and service demands. Exterior improvements are being completed during the 08/09 fiscal year.
Station 48 is on Missouri Flat Road, north of Highway 50. This station houses two ambulances and an engine. Two personnel, who are funded by El Dorado County Service Area 7, staff this station. These personnel staff an advanced life support ambulance 24 hours a day. Pending development on the Missouri Flat corridor will require the widening of Missouri Flat Road. This would infringe on the existing fire station and would require that the facility be moved. Direct development mitigation must fund replacement of this facility. This facility was recently modified to accommodate additional personnel and service demands. In the event of a needed expansion of Station 48, the existing sight is not suitable due to its size. Alternate station sites are being investigated within the scope of this plan. The District has established a reserve fund for issues related to this project. Some funding related to operations will be addressed by the CFD. The District is actively planning replacement of this facility.
Station 44 is located in the Golden West Paradise development in the south area of the District. This station houses an engine and is a volunteer-staffed facility. The station is home to one resident firefighter. Staffing of this station is on a casual basis with a good volunteer turnout. Issues regarding the maintenance needs have been addressed, but modification of the facility may be necessary to accommodate an additional resident. This upgrade is included in the scope of the plan, but may not be completed before the next revision. This facility serves as a key communications site for the county and facilities at this location may require an area set aside for the housing of communications equipment.
Station 46 is in the town of El Dorado. One person, on a forty-hour per week schedule has historically staffed this station. This facility houses the maintenance facility for the Districts' vehicles. As of March 2007, this facility will be staffed with two to three firefighters. The station will house two engines and one water tender. Issues regarding the maintenance needs have been addressed.
